Privacy & Cookies

Privacy and cookies

Plain English, because privacy notices should be. This explains what I collect through this website, why, how cookies are used and the choices you have.

Draft wording: to be reviewed and confirmed before launch.

Who I am

This website is operated by Joanne Whitehead, trading as a business strategy consultancy in the United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law, I am the data controller for the personal information collected through this site.

You can contact me about anything in this notice at jo@joannewhitehead.com.

What I collect and why

If you complete the enquiry form, I collect your name, email address, optional telephone number and preferred contact method, your role and business name if you provide them, what you would like to talk about, your message, and how you heard about me. I use this only to respond to your enquiry and, if we decide to work together, to manage that working relationship.

The form also records the time it was submitted and a small amount of technical information (such as a hashed version of your network address) used solely to detect spam and prevent abuse. This is never used for marketing or profiling.

The lawful basis for this processing is my legitimate interest in responding to enquiries about my services, and, where a working relationship follows, steps taken towards or within a contract.

What I do not do

I do not sell or rent your information, I do not add enquirers to a marketing list without their explicit consent, and I do not use your message for any purpose other than responding to you.

I do not use advertising or tracking cookies; see the Cookies section below.

Where your information is stored

Enquiry submissions are stored securely within my website hosting and email systems. Service providers that process data on my behalf are bound by appropriate contractual safeguards. Where information is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by an adequacy regulation or appropriate contractual clauses.

How long I keep it

If your enquiry does not lead to work together, I keep it for up to twelve months in case our conversation continues, then delete it. If we do work together, I keep relevant records for as long as the relationship and any legal or tax obligations require, normally up to six years after our work ends.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to request a copy of the personal information I hold about you, to ask me to correct or delete it, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability where applicable. To exercise any of these rights, email jo@joannewhitehead.com.

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, please tell me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Cookies

This website sets a small number of strictly necessary cookies and similar storage, used only to make the site work: remembering your cookie choices, keeping the enquiry form secure and preventing abuse. These cannot be switched off, because the site will not function properly without them.

Optional measurement storage is used only if you agree to it. It tells me, in aggregate, which pages are read and where people arrive from. It does not identify you, and it is not used for advertising.

You can change your mind at any time using the "Manage Cookie Choices" link in the footer, and you can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings.

This website does not use advertising, retargeting or social media tracking cookies. If that ever changes, this page will be updated and your consent asked for before any such cookies are set.

Changes to this notice

I review this notice from time to time and will update this page if anything changes. This version was last updated in 2026.
